880 SOUTH IS SEEKING A GUITARIST

880 SOUTH is looking for a versatile guitarist to join our recording and live lineup.

We are an established independent alternative band with a catalog spanning reggae, funk, rocksteady, dub, soul, R&B, and rock. We recently reached approximately 115,500 monthly Spotify listeners and are currently investing heavily in new music, videos, marketing, and two albums planned for 2027. The band has been active since 2006, but our history goes back to 1998.

This is a studio-first position. For the remainder of 2026, approximately 90% of our focus will be writing and recording. Live shows will happen occasionally, with more live activity likely after the new albums are released.

We are primarily looking in the Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Sacramento/Northern California areas. Our band members live in multiple states, specifically Colorado and California. The band originated in California.

WHAT WE NEED

We value four things equally:

• Talent and creativity
• Work ethic and reliability
• Personality and low ego
• Technical aptitude

Talent alone is not enough.

You must be able to develop strong guitar parts across multiple styles, communicate consistently, receive critique, give critique, suggest ideas, complete revisions, and work independently with your DAW and recording setup.

We need someone capable of lead guitar, hooks, riffs, countermelodies, textures, shadow picking, effects, strong rhythm playing, funk and soul guitar, reggae and rocksteady rhythm, alternative-rock parts, and knowing when not to play.

You must have pride in your playing without becoming territorial about parts, solos, or stage position.

CURRENT GUITAR LINEUP

Steve, our longtime guitarist, is still part of 880 SOUTH. He is currently stepping back from regular studio recording but may occasionally perform live and could become more active again in the future.

This is not a temporary replacement position.

Currently, Weege handles much of the rhythm guitar, so the new guitarist will initially focus heavily on leads, melodies, hooks, textures, and color.

If Steve returns to regular activity, we will operate with two guitarists. Weege will focus primarily on vocals, percussion, and auxiliary parts. Rhythm, lead, hooks, textures, and other guitar responsibilities will be divided according to the needs of each song and the strengths of each player.

We are easygoing about how the responsibilities are divided. The priority is always creating the strongest possible arrangement.

────────────

STUDIO EXPECTATIONS

You must have a reliable recording setup and be comfortable working remotely.

When a songwriting session is active, we expect a first pass as soon as possible and generally within one week. If life causes a delay, communicate before the band loses momentum. Revisions continue until the song is right.

You must be able to manage your own DAW, recording, file organization, exports, and uploads without creating repeated technical setbacks.

────────────

FINANCIALS AND OWNERSHIP

This is not a salaried position or an immediate-income opportunity.

Music production is a long-term investment. Streaming, publishing, and other royalties often take three to four months or longer to report and pay after a release.

We are currently meeting and negotiating with publishing and royalty administrators to collect back royalties. Money will come in due time, but the immediate focus is the long-term investment of building something that can produce continued growth and revenue.

Contributors receive equal participation in the music they help create. If six people contribute to a recording, our standard arrangement is to divide the applicable master and publishing participation six ways.

For live performances, Weege retains 10% for booking and administrative work. After expenses, the remaining income is divided evenly among the performers.

Because we share future revenue equally, the commitment and quality expectations are high.

────────────

PROMOTION

Promotion is an equal responsibility.

We expect you to share new music through your social channels, email, and text your friends when songs or albums are released. We expect you to talk about the recordings during interviews, post videos discussing new music, and actively promote any live shows we book.

Simply sharing a flyer or occasionally reposting the band is not enough. We have no room for shyness when it comes to representing and promoting the music we create together.

QUARTERLY COLORADO SESSIONS

Although most of our recording process happens remotely, our goal is to gather in Colorado approximately every three to four months for focused writing, rehearsal, recording, live-session filming, photography, and music-video production.

We have not maintained that schedule as consistently in 2026, but we plan to resume these sessions beginning in September.

Applicants should be realistically willing and able to travel to Colorado for these sessions. Exact dates, travel arrangements, and expenses will be discussed and planned in advance.
