The band's journey began in the late '90s, emerging from Northern California’s alt-rock scene and performing at premier venues like Slim’s, the Catalyst, and the Cactus Club. Originally known as the Floppy Rods, they transformed into 880 SOUTH in 2002, with Greg Medeiros, Steve Shyshka, and Luigi “Weege” Casaretto leading the way. Together, they craft their signature reggae-infused sound, merging classic rock, soul, and reggae with Motown and hip-hop influences, creating grooves that stir the soul.
880 South’s discography includes two full-length albums, Beware and Youth Bus Sessions, available on iTunes. Their latest singles, "Puzzles” and “Never Been,” mixed, mastered, and produced by Adam Patterson of The Expendables, showcase their continuous musical evolution. The band has recently welcomed saxophonist Chelsea Martinez and drummer Roy Camello to their studio lineup.
In 2024, 880 South embarked on an ambitious "24 in 24" campaign, aggresively writing, producing and releasing two dozen singles independently throughout the year. This leads into two new full-length albums set for 2025—one as a tribute to their reggae roots, and the other a deep dive into soul-infused funk and rhythm & blues. These albums will accompany a nationwide U.S. tour across 20 target cities, identified through streaming analytics and social media engagement.
